If we were kings: The Drag King Project und show:me Women on Stage

Die Freiburger Protagonistin des Erzählcafés von Here and Black Sévérine Kpoti befasst sich im Medium der Konzertfotografie mit der Präsenz von Frauen auf subkulturellen Bühnen. In ihren jüngsten Arbeiten denkt Kpoti die Dekonstruktion von Geschlechterrollen weiter. Was ist das überhaupt: feminin? maskulin? Mit der Drag-King-Serie stellt Kpoti gesellschaftliche Normen in Frage und provoziert zugleich durch Klischees und Symbolik. Im Weiteren will sie aber auch die Fantasie der betrachtenden Person anregen und diese in eine Welt eintauchen lassen, in der es möglich wird weiblich zu sein, männlich zu sein, nichts oder alles, doch in jedem Fall die Person zu sein, die man sein will.

Sévérine Kpoti, protagonist of the Conversation „Image and Stage“ by Here and Black focuses on the presence of women on the subcultural stage in her concert photography projects. In her most recent work she has expanded her interest towards a fundamental deconstruction of gender roles: What does it mean to be feminine? What to be masculine? In her Drag King series Kpoti questions societal norms and provokes by drawing on cliches and symbolism, while activating the phantasy of the beholders by allowing them to engage with a world in which being female, or male, neither or both at once, or in any case the person one wants to be, becomes a palpable possibility. La protagoniste dans la Conversation de Here and Black „Image et Scène“ Sévérine Kpoti s’interesse en la photographie de concert et de la présence des femmes sur les scènes de sous-culture. Leurs travaux récents se concentrent sur la déconstruction des rôles sexuels (féminité et masculinité). Qu’entend-on exactement par : Féminité ? Masculinité ? Avec la série Drag King, elle veut remettre en question les normes sociales tout en les provoquant avec des clichés et du symbolisme. En outre, stimulez l’imagination de la personne qui vous regarde et plongez-la dans un monde où il est possible d’être une femme, un homme, rien ou n’importe quoi, mais en tout cas d’être la personne que l’on aimerait être.
